
DENISA MILLETTE, PHD, LPC, CCTP
Licensed Psychotherapist; Professor of Psychology
Dr. Denisa Millette is an Atlanta-based Licensed Psychotherapist, and a Psychology Professor at Yorkville University, Canada. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Certified Professional Clinical Supervisor. Dr. Millette currently serves as chair of the International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling Professional Development Committee of the American Counseling Association.
She obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in her country of origin, the Czech Republic. She obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology and Research at Capella University in the United States where she currently resides.
Dr. Millette has been actively engaged in various fields of psychology, including clinical, forensic, counseling, and peak performance psychology, for over 20 years. Her practical experience includes conducting psychological and forensic evaluations and trauma assessments and providing targeted trauma-focused psychotherapy to clients of all ages in treatment centers as well as private psychological practice in the Czech Republic, United Kingdom, and the United States.
She has been recognized as an expert witness in child abuse and trauma cases in juvenile and superior courts across Georgia, USA.
Dr. Millette’s research efforts are focused on emotional intelligence, self-care practices, and vicarious trauma prevention in helping professionals. Dr. Millette is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, and Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology.
Dr. Millette is currently serving as a clinical director of a non-profit organization providing therapeutic services to single mothers involved in child welfare services. In this capacity, Dr. Millette has developed a three-phase bio-psycho-social model of trauma intervention specific to this population's needs. She is responsible for creating and evaluating all aspects of the program interventions, overseeing research efforts, and providing training and supervision in trauma-informed care to therapists obtaining a license to practice independently in the United States.
In addition, she is working with diverse and international populations of clients in her private practice, focusing mainly on trauma recovery, using a variety of evidence-based modalities, including CBT, DBT, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Expressive Art Therapy, Mindfulness, and Trauma-Focused Yoga as well as other body-based practices.
